WAGAP Reptile and
Amphibian Maps The Gap Analysis Program identifies areas of high biodiversity and
assesses the level of protection. Simply put, Gap is a proactive approach to keep common
animals common and to maintain our quality of life. These are the predicted range
distribution maps using WAGAP's land cover map. The maps identify the core and the
peripheral (based mainly on elevation) range of the species using green for core areas and
yellow for peripheral.
FrogWeb - Focus on Amphibian Declines and Deformities Scientists are closely tracking developments in the malformation
and decline of amphibian populations in North America and elsewhere. As reported on
ABC's Nightline on June 20, 1997, "If
frogs begin showing signs of distress, it could be only a matter of time before other
species are affected, including humans."
The Center for North
American Amphibians and Reptilesserves as a data bank for
information about North American amphibians and reptiles, and promotes the study and
conservation of them by financial support of selected publications, photography, and any
other appropriate medium, as well as the establishment of awards for excellence in
research about these fascinating creatures. The amphibian and reptilian fauna in the
United States and Canada consists of approximately 545 species.
