"Subbing" can be a great professional teaching experience. You can choose
which assignments you take. It gives you the opportunity to explore grade levels, subject
areas, and schools. However, "Murphy's Law" also is the Rule of the Day, too. If
something can go wrong, it will. Some schools may not have adequate lesson plans when you
arrive, teacher's editions to texts, or even student materials. This website was created
to survive those "blisters" and enjoy the "blessings"
of substitute teaching. --- Dennis W. Mills, Ph.D.

Reading Journal Activities Most activities require no
more than the overhead, and those that do I mark when I skip them to save for a day when
we can use a little more activity or fun time. The ones at the front are a good way to
begin using these; most can be done by the teacher reading the selection out
loud.--Barbara D. Martin
